The Last Step
We're all dancing, two by two
So graciously, with the shiny lights above us
And something's wrong with this scene
Why do so many people close their eyes?
Beside a huge window, a lonely man is talking
Maybe with the night, the stars or even the universe
No one will ever know who he's talking to
But everybody can remember his words
“Everybody's blind, my dear friend,
No one want to see the truth, even if it's evident,
That's why everybody keep dancing like puppets,
And they'll never stop 'til they'll fall on the ground.
And, oh dear friend, they will never see what surround them,
Every flowers, every fragments of life,
They'll never see further than this room,
Why did they leave such a charming place?
Glory and richness, that's all they want,
Why should they go see further than this room?
Oh dear friend, they'll never understand your beauty,
But do I understand it better? I'm not sure...
Even if I've been watching you for centuries now,
I'll never understand all your magnificence,
But since all this time, I saw and know something,
We'll dance forever in this room, 'cause we're happy there... right?”
After he says those words, the old man strangely falls on the dance floor
Then he disappears, like he'd never existed
I walk to this place, feel the warmth of his body that was there, alive
Then I watch through the window
What I saw was simply wonderful
Land of earth, going straight like it is never going to end
And, strangely, not even a bird or a bug appear
It was nature, like we used to know it
But... what is happening to me?
A strange feeling... like it was a part of myself that suddenly appears
And, when I want to turn back to watch the dancers
No one's there anymore, except one person, dancing alone in the middle of the room
He seems to be blind too... like all the dancers were
But when I try to touch him, his eyes open
He watches me, then smile
He knew that I would come, and I knew that I'd find him
I take his right hand in my left one, put my right hand on his shoulder
And, for sure, he puts his left hand a little bit lower than my back
Then, we begin to dance, smiling to each other
But we're moving, we're living, I feel it!
Coming closer to the window with each step
None of us ever liked this room
Why should we stay then?
That's why we graciously jump outside
A bright light surrounds us, what a strange moment!
We continue to dance through this shiny light
While colours jump everywhere around us
I finally understand what happened!
